Featured here is an ancient Norse style Handbag known as a Hedeby or Haithabu Bag. The style is based on an archeological find from the Viking town called Haithabu and was used by both Women and Men during the early Middle Ages.
The front body of the bag has been handcrafted with a generous piece of organically tanned sheepskin that is dense, soft and curly. The rear body of the bag was made with a sturdy and durable but soft tempered Horween leather.
True to the original style of the bag, it features two handcrafted wooden handles and sliding the handles together will close the bag.
The strap is a hand woven inkle band made of wool that is approximately 70 inches long. The band can easily be removed and substituted with another woven band, leather cord or rope.
The handles measure 10 inches long and 3 inches high. Size of the bag is 9.5 inches High, 11.5 inches Wide, a 1 inch gusset and opens to about 3 inches wide.
While maybe not historically correct when using the leather and sheepskins for this type of bag, it would be a perfect addition for a LARP, Ren-Faire or a Game of Thrones outfit.
